VLB Group has developed steel section bars for cabins bending cell, for METSEC.
The profiles of excavator cabins present significant challenges during processing, particularly when employing two different bending methods—fixed radius and variable radius—within the same cycle (bending and roll bending). The complexity of the geometry is the primary reason for these challenges. Asymmetric profile bends often result in deformation and twisting, making achieving high quality and maintaining consistent production difficult.

Despite being built for rugged performance, these components also require a high-quality aesthetic finish to enhance the overall appearance of the construction equipment. They are designed to reinforce the vehicle’s cabin, effectively absorb impact forces during collisions, and protect occupants in demanding work environments.

Despite the challenges involved, we achieved remarkable results by maintaining the integrity of the tube geometry in the bent areas and successfully managing twisting even after seven bends, three of which involved variable radii. This success is attributed to the close collaboration between the teams of VLB Group – Tube Benders, and voestalpine Metsec plc.

The scale of this project is impressive; it features a fully automated bending cell spanning 150 square meters, requiring no human intervention. This setup includes a profile warehouse with conveyors, a robust robot capable of lifting 250 kg for loading and unloading the profiles, a customized, fully electric heavy-duty tube bender, and seamless integration with the customer’s existing peripheral equipment.
Additionally, we are proud to partner with one of the world’s largest metalworking groups specializing in metal transformation.
